This document includes: 1) Intro------2) How to download------3) How to use 1) INTRODUCTION Hello, fellow Chip fans! Here are some midi files that you can set as your background music when playing Chip's Challenge (I didn't make any of them, they all came from other websites). I was pretty selective when choosing songs, so hopefully you'll enjoy any song you download. For your convenience, I've rated them on a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being the best. Even ones that you wouldn't normally listen to might be good as background music (for example, I wouldn't burn the default Chip's Challenge songs onto a CD and listen to them, yet they are great background music for the game). Rating key, based on how good a song is as a background: 5 = not bad 6 = okay 7 = pretty good (exampe: CHIP01 = 7 7.5 = CHIP02) 8 = good 9 = very good 10 = you's a fool not to download it! Read further down to learn how to make them your background music. I will update this folder as often as I find good midis. You can find your own if you want, just search on google for midi files. 2) HOW TO DOWNLOAD THEM? You can listen to them before you download them simply by left-clicking on them. To download them, you have to right click on them, and choose "Save target as...". When the download box appears, it will ask you whether you want to Open (Run) or Save. Choose "Save". 3) HOW TO SET MIDI FILES AS BACKGROUND MUSIC? There might be another way than the way I do it, but here's what I do and it's simple enough: a) If you haven't already, make a folder just for Chip's challenge and move the Chip's Challenge files (wherever they are) to it. This isn't necessary, but it will save you time when you are setting the background music. b) Also for convenience, make a folder for your midi's and put them there (it should be a different folder from the Chip's Challenge folder). If you want, you can make the folder inside the Chip's Challenge folder. c) You'll notice in the Chip's Challenge folder two .mid files (with the icon of your media player) called "CHIP01" and "CHIP02". These are the files the game uses as its background music. Unless you dislike these two songs, you should COPY them to your midi folder. Once you've done so, I recommend renaming them, to say, "CHIP1" and "CHIP2". This will save you a step later on. d) To change the background music, COPY the two songs you want to use and paste them in the Chip's Challenge folder. Delete the original CHIP01 and CHIP02 (you have a copy of each of them, remember), and rename the two chosen songs to CHIP01 and CHIP02. When you run Chip's Challenge, the game won't know or care what song is called Chips01 or Chips02. It will play whatever song has that name in the chip's challenge folder. You can change the songs in the middle of the game. As far as I know, this same trick can't be done with sound effects, because they have a unique extension, ".wa_". I think it's some variation of .wav, so i'll try downloading some wav files and using them as sound effects. Enjoy the songs, Frank
