Short Readme for MAKEMAP.EXE (C) 2003 Johannes Postel - Freeware MAKEMAP.EXE is a tool for Ruben Spaan's "Chip's Challnege MAPMAKER". Although MapMaker offers many different varieties of creating a level map, it is sometimes a bit complicated to handle and does not support creating several maps at one time. MAKEMAP will present you a dialog form for comfortable inputting your preferences of your maps. REQUIREMENTS: The ONLY version of MapMaker supported by MAKEMAP is 2.2 The program will perform a CRC to ensure that an unmodified program file MAPMAKER.EXE of version 2.2 is in use. On detecting any other or modified version of MapMaker, the program will cancel. The WWW offers many sources for downloading the unmodified version 2.2 - just seek them using a common search engine. Furthermore, the file MAPMAKER.BMP and the level set to read from must be located in MAKEMAP's directory. KNOWN LIMITATIONS: Because it is written in assembly language, the program has no full error handling. If you input a level file that does not exist, the program will abort. If you choose to map out more than one level and enter a starting number larger than the end number, the program will continue asking for map properties but will not produce any map. The program would either have been unnecessarily larger in size or presented a bad layout had I programmed a repetition loop to handle bogus inputs. Therefore, it's the responsibility of the user to provide correct data. NOTES: - Before loading the dialog, the program checks the existance of MAPMAKER.EXE and MAPMAKER.BMP. If one or both files are missing, the program cancels. - A CRC is performed both on MAPMAKER.EXE and MAPMAKER.BMP. If the CRC of MAPMAKER.EXE does not match, the program cancels. If it fails for MAPMAKER.BMP, the program will ask you whether to continue anyway. - MAKEMAP is entirely written in assembly language. Therefore, it should run on any MS-DOS compatible system or in a emulator box of Windows XP at a reasonable speed. - You may alter the name of the output file only if just one level is to be mapped out. Otherwise, MAKEMAP uses the scheme LEVEL???.BMP. - Please note that MAKEMAPS is only possible because of MAPMAKER written by Ruben Spaans. I would like to thank him for his excellent work and make clear that MAKEMAP (hopefully) simplifies MAPMAKER's use, but does not enlarge ist's functions and abilities.
